Website Construction & Development
Planning your website
There are a number of things to do when setting up a website, whether this is your first business site or a re-design of an existing one
but the most important of these is planning.
The more planning you can do, and the more detailed the plan, the easier and quicker it will be for your website developer to do what you want and get it right with the minimum of time-consuming re-designs -
and since time is money, the cheaper it will be for you to get up and running.
When planning think about the overall layout; how many pages do you need, pick some colour themes to try out with your logo, do you have a logo? Draw out the approximate positioning of text, where the pictures should go.
Use the internet and do your research; check out your competitors, what aspects of their sites do you like/dislike.
These are some of the basics. (You can download a Website Planning Checklist, and do come in for a chat if you're in South London).
Packages and Features
To find the right website for you or your company, use our website comparison table
which will give you a more complete list of features included with each package. Then take a look at the various Options and Modules available.
All WebRemixers' websites are built using a CMS package called Joomla - a modular system that allows owners to maintain sites themselves after a brief tutorial. More about our Joomla and CMS packages.
Our fixed packages include:
* Web Presence - perfect for start up businesses and individuals and includes domain name registration, hosting, backup and support.
* Professional - ideal for Small Businesses and Professional Individuals, includes domain name and upgraded hosting package.
* Business - Designed for SME companies and organisations who wish to communicate information to their clients and members.
Other packages available are:
* Flash Animation - For custom-designed movies/animations/products which need to have a specific look and an immediate visual impact.
There are of course other options and additions that can be incorporated into the website, the most commonly requested are: Flash/Animated introduction page and e-Commerce solution; and Hosting Packages can be taken out independently of your website.
The Next Step
After you have done your planning, have your text and images ready, and picked a name for your website, (pick 3 alternatives in case the one you want is taken), then phone us to arrange a meeting.
I guarantee you will have a much more productive discussion than if you came un-prepared - and we will also have several more suggestions based on your ideas for your consideration.
You can see a sample of websites on the Portfolio page - most are online and in active use.
Websites displayed which are no longer in use have been loaded onto our server to demonstrate one or more particular features
and/or are those we feel may be of particular interest.
Please read our Terms and Conditions - they are fairly standard, although it is worth re-iterating that we must have all text and images before we start on the page,
(and preferably before we start on the site), makes sense doesn't it? You'd be surprised how many times we have been asked to '...just write something in for now...', or '...can you get a suitable picture from the web for me...'.
These apparently simple requests are surprisingly time-consuming especially since what we put in turns out to be not quite right and subsequently needs to be completely changed -
we feel about as justified charging for our time for this wasted exercise as the client does in paying for it. (Although, be assured, most other companies will not hesitate to add this time to your bill).
ALSO, there are legal implications of not using copyright-free images; in other words: take your own pictures for your website.
